Weekend with DJ

How a stage play, a short film and one suspicious story about a college drug mafia led to an unexpected friendship.

You have been clickbaited again haha.

I know you have.

Because of the title.

Before I start though, I need to clear up a few things. This is more like an introductory blog. Think of it like Dune. It is mostly setup. Maybe a little build up. A lot of talking before the actual stuff starts happening.

So first of all, how did I even meet DJ?

And if you clicked on this thinking this blog is about me spending a weekend with some DJ at a club or a party, then I am sorry to disappoint you.

There is no club.

There is no party.

There is no music.

There are no girls either!!!

DJ is actually my friend.

And this is basically about how I met him and how things have been a little different ever since.

So basically DJ is the momo man.

Ohh wait.

Too soon.

I should probably start over.

I met DJ for the first time sometime in February.

It started when a friend of mine asked if I would be interested in directing a stage play as a walk in director.

Usually I would probably say no to something like this.

Not because I do not like theatre. I love theatre.

I just somehow never have time for anything.

And at that point I definitely did not have time either.

But for some reason I thought, you know what, I should do this.

Which is how I ended up visiting my old college on a Friday evening.

And that is where I met DJ for the first time.

He told me that he was hiding from the college drug mafia and that was apparently why he had decided to take part in the play.

I know.

What bullshit.

But yaa, that is DJ.

He likes making up stuff like this and then saying it with enough confidence that for half a second you actually start wondering if maybe there really is a college drug mafia looking for him.

Anyway, because of the play I ended up spending a decent amount of time with everyone in the group.

And while working with them I started realising that a few people there actually had a lot of potential.

Which became important very soon because, coincidentally, I had been given an option to make a short film for my final submission for the multimodal narrative module.

There was only one problem.

I did not have a team.

Honestly, before the play I would not even have considered making a film for the submission. Making a short film sounds great until you remember that you need actors, people to help you, equipment, locations and about seventy other things that you somehow forgot existed.

But then I realised something.

I kind of had a team standing right in front of me.

Maybe not technically.

But there were people here who were interested in performing, I had already spent time working with them and I thought maybe a few of them would actually be interested in making a film too.

So I decided to ask.

And honestly, DJ was one of the people who really stood out to me.

He was sincere.

He was ambitious.

He was good at acting and had a really strong stage presence.

More importantly, he actually wanted to build something.

Luckily for me, he was interested.

So he came along.

And that is basically how all of this started.

We slowly started getting along while working together and eventually made our first film, Kshitij.

After Kshitij, we somehow looked at everything that goes into making one short film and thought, yaa, let us do this again.

So we decided that we would make another film during the summer break.

And I think that is when we actually started hanging out a lot more.

Which is also where the real stories begin.

But I am stopping here for now.

Remember, this is the Dune of the DJ blogs.

Mostly setup.

The momo man lore will come later.

Do not worry.

I will update this.
